Janet Dawson
A Weaver of Cloth (& baskets!)

Janet Dawson is a self professed fibre junkie whose current outlet is weaving fabrics and baskets. She learned handweaving at the Cape Breton School of Crafts (now named the Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design) in 1994 and basket weaving there a few years later. She's been selling her weaving around Canada and the States since 1995 and teaching handweaving at CBCCD since 2000. Past president of the Sydney Spinners & Handweavers Guild, she is currently the Handweavers Guild of America's Regional Representative for the Atlantic provinces.

Janet moved to Cape Breton from Seattle, Washington, in 1994 after marrying a Sydney native she met on the internet. Since then she's split her time evenly between the 21st Century and the 18th.

Janet is a member of the Sydney Spinners & Handweavers Guild, the Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design (CBCCD), the Atlantic Spinners and Handweavers Guild (ASH), the Guild of Canadian Weavers (GCW), and the Handweavers Guild of America (HGA).
